Trench Safety

#LFR responded to a trench collapse incident that could have ended in tragedy, but thanks to an incredible team effort, we saw a successful rescue and a positive outcome.

A CRITICAL REMINDER:

Trench safety is not optional.
– Trenches deeper than 5 feet require proper protective systems—this includes sloping, shoring, or shielding. NO exceptions.
– Every trench should be inspected by a competent person before work begins and throughout the job. Soil conditions change, and hazards can develop in minutes.
– Workers should never enter an unprotected trench. Collapses happen without warning and can bury a person under thousands of pounds of soil in seconds.
– NO task is worth a life. Plan ahead. Use the right protections. Speak up when something isn’t safe.

Proud of our team who worked alongside many other agencies across Lincoln during a high-stress situation to save a life!
