Matt Nygard serves as a Project Manager for General Excavating. Originally from Hinckley, Minnesota, Matt brings more than 20 years of experience in the construction and plumbing industries. He began his career with seven years in residential and commercial plumbing, where he advanced into estimating and project management roles. Over the past 13 years, Matt has focused on underground plumbing, providing estimating and project management services on a wide range of projects. In his role at General Excavating, Matt is responsible for estimating and managing projects from start to finish, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. He is a licensed Master Plumber, and his extensive technical knowledge and hands-on experience allow him to deliver practical, cost-effective solutions for clients. Matt’s background in both field operations and project management strengthens General Excavating’s ability to successfully deliver underground utility projects for private and public owners.

Chad Cose holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Surveying and Computer-Aided Drafting Technology from Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska. Chad Cose brings over 25 years of experience in estimating, project management, and construction consulting to his role as Estimator/Project Manager at General Excavating. Chad will leverage his background in cost estimation, project programming, and project coordination to support General Excavating’s Underground Utility division. Matt Schmidt brings over 20 years of experience in the construction industry to his role as Project Manager of the Underground Utility Division at General Excavating. Cassie Pullen, an Omaha native, earned a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from the University of Nebraska–Omaha. She has over a decade of experience estimating and managing civil projects in the Omaha metro area. Her background includes a wide range of underground utility, grading, environmental, and remediation projects for both public and private entities. Cassie’s strong background in the Omaha market will support GE’s continued growth as we strengthen our presence in the area.
Melvyn Carreto serves as General Excavating’s Safety Manager. Originally from David City, Nebraska, Melvyn attended Wayne State College, where he earned a double major in Construction Management and Safety Management. Following graduation, Melvyn worked in the field on a structures crew, eventually transitioning into safety-oriented work. Currently, he assists new hires with safety orientations during the onboarding process and works directly with field operations to help ensure employees and jobsites are safe and secure. Melvyn engages with crewmembers and onsite personnel on how to avoid injuries and accidents by providing them with continuous safety training and mentoring.
Andrea earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Letourneau University in Longview, Texas. Andrea has over a decade of experience as a Controller in the manufacturing industry. She began her career as a middle school math teacher, which then led her to pursue more experience in accounting. As the Controller for General Excavating, Andrea is responsible for leading the accounting team. She also manages all financial reporting and performs analyses to help guide General Excavating’s financial decisions.
Kyle Brockmueller earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from South Dakota State University. He brings 15 years of industry experience in Heavy Civil Construction. In his role at General Excavating, Kyle is responsible for overseeing our South Dakota operations, and plays a key role in estimation of future work, recruitment of skilled employees and guides our field crews, as they perform rehabilitation and new bridge construction across the state of South Dakota.
Steve Crosby has over 20 years of experience in Hydro-Excavation, Directional Boring, and Outside Plant (OSP) construction, Steve is a seasoned Project Manager specializing in fiber optic cable, electrical, telecommunication, gas, sewer, and water line installations across Nebraska and surrounding states. Throughout his career, Steve has successfully coordinated and managed a diverse range of projects, working with major service providers such as Black Hills Energy, ALLO, Verizon, and Sprint.
As a Project Manager, Steve is skilled in overseeing both hourly and contracted jobs, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. His responsibilities include supervising and scheduling crews, job preparation, estimating costs, and managing contract billing. As a highly organized and effective communicator, Steve ensures smooth project execution from start to finish, consistently delivering results that exceed client expectations while maintaining a focus on safety and efficiency. Steve’s expertise in coordinating complex construction operations and managing client relationships are key to his continued success in the industry.
Nate Clouse grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska before moving to Lincoln in 2001 to attend the University of Nebraska where he studied business administration and communications. He joined General Excavating in early 2024 as the Director of Business Development. Nate is responsible for establishing and maintaining business relationships with various engineering firms, contractors, subcontractors, and other industrial clients. In addition to assisting with strategic planning efforts to seek out new opportunities regionally, he supports the marketing and communication initiatives to help in reaching those objectives. Prior to joining GE, Nate spent over 20 years in the sports industry with experience in sales, recruiting and media.
Emily Doeschot leads the Human Resources department at General Excavating. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master’s in Business Administration from Doane University, specializing in Human Resources and Project Management. She excels in employee recruitment, retention, and engagement, working to create a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Emily assists with benefits management, employee development, and performance management, ensuring the company meets both employee and organizational needs. Her proactive approach helps align HR strategies with business objectives, to help drive success.
Jim Brunner has over 25 years of management experience in underground site utility and industrial construction. His background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Geological Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. In addition to his role as a project manager in General Excavating’s underground utilities department, Jim leads the environmental and trenchless divisions. From design development through job closeout, Jim has a wide range of experience on projects for public and private owners and is a great resource in helping our clients solve their civil construction problems.
Brian Egr earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In his role as General Excavating’s underground utilities department manager, Brian has managed some of the largest and most difficult projects for General Excavating’s public and private clients. He is also responsible for excavation shoring projects utilizing Heliwalls and other support of excavation systems. Brian’s extensive construction experience is utilized on every step of the project including preconstruction services, estimating, management, and project closeout.
Zac earned his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Zac has over a decade of experience in heavy civil construction. He began his career as an intern and advanced to a project manager for a large national heavy civil constructor. As a Vice President at General Excavating, Zac will be responsible for project estimation, construction, and close-out on large civil construction projects for public and private owners across the state of Nebraska.
Jerry Kabourek serves as Director of Operations for General Excavating. Originally from Brainard, Nebraska, Jerry attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he earned a degree in Construction Management. Following graduation, Jerry has gained nearly 30 years of field experience and expertise as a project manager in the heavy highway and civil field. Jerry has a wide range of experience constructing sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and concrete paving projects. He is a strong advocate for clients and understands that listening to the client is the first step toward successful project completion. Jerry’s extensive civil construction background will help ensure General Excavating continues to be a leader in the construction of underground utilities for private and public owners.

Ted Butler begins leadership at General Excavating as it enters its fourth decade. Ted possesses over twenty-five years of construction experience, having served in a wide variety of field and management roles. Ted’s career encompasses time in the field on new bridge construction, project management, and area manager of heavy civil projects across the United States and Canada. “General Excavating has long been a leader in the construction industry. My goal is to build on this reputation while also expanding and diversifying the services GE offers clients in both the private and public fields,” stated Mr. Butler. Ted grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and is a graduate of Boise State University. His most recent work includes managing a wide range of company operations for a strong regional firm, including concrete/block/precast plant facilities, aggregate mining and production, and roadway construction projects benefiting infrastructure across the state of Nebraska.
